Effective Feedback: Part II

QUESTION: What is feedback and why does it matter? 
  • Watch the 45-minute video of Grant Wiggins and others discussing feedback.
  • Skim the PPT slides that were used in the video clip (available below) below by Grant Wiggins.
  • Read page 43-53 (one sentence at top of page 53) of Chapter 3-Providing Ongoing Feedback, from EDUCATIVE ASSESSMENT by Grant Wiggins.  The pages came from my copy of the book and I will apologize in advance for the notations and underlining in the scanned document.
  • Write a letter to your principal to convince her/him of the value of all teachers in your district having feedback training.   Support your position with evidence from the text and/or video.  Be specific in citing the evidence.
  • Save as a Word document and send to Barb Kruthoff (bkruthoff@eastsac.k12.ia.us).

Effective vs Ineffective Feedback: Part III
Approximate Time to Complete: 1 hr

QUESTION: What does effective feedback look like?

  • Listen to the audio introduction.
  • View the samples of traditional feedback.
  • Listen to the audio and view the documents describing a writing task and the accompanying primary trait rubrics.
  • Listen to the audio and view the next two (2) documents to see effective feedback.
  • Reflect, in writing, on your current strengths and weaknesses when it comes to giving effective feedback.  What will help you overcome the weaknesses, be specific?  Send this as a Word document to Barb Kruthoff (bkruthoff@eastsac.k12.ia.us)

Now You Try
Each teacher is now expected to:
  • Use what you have learned about giving Effective Feedback a minimum of 5X in your classroom.
  • Receive peer feedback at least 2X.
  • Receive principal feedback at least 1X
  • Use the Google Doc for Implementation to document your implementation, peer feedback, and principal feedback.
    • At the completion of the minimum implementations complete the Reflection on Implementation document.
    • Receive the Peer Feedback Document and schedule a time with the peer to review the feedback.
    • Receive the Principal Feedback Document and schedule a time with the principal to review the feedback.
Teacher completes this after implementing Effective Feedback 5X.  The teacher's Dropbox folder should have 1 of these for this module.
Reflection Document
Peer completes this before meeting with the teacher for peer feedback session.  The teacher's Dropbox folder should have 2 of these documents for this module.
Peer Feedback Document
Principal completes this before meeting with the teacher for principal feedback session.  The teacher's Dropbox folder should have 1 of these documents for this module.
Principal Feedback Document
Peer and/or principal may (not required) use this tool before completing the feedback document for a teacher.  If used it may be placed in a teacher's Dropbox folder.
